Itinerary Visit Guide

Rashid or Rosetta is 65 km east of Alexandria. The name of the city is very famous among Egyptologists as the famous Rosetta stone was discovered in 1800.

The day tour to Rosetta starts with meeting your guide at the exit door of your cruise ship at the port of Alexandria. The drive to your first stop will take about 1 hour. The first place you visit is the fort of Qaitbay. This fort was built in 1262 to protect the city and Sultan Qaitbay restored its tower in 1479. Your Egyptologist guide will explain all the history of the fort. Next stop, you will visit the Rosetta National museum, which is situated in one of the Ottoman houses. This house was owned by a Turkish merchant called Hussein Arab Killy. The house dates back to the 18 century and gives the visitors an idea of what a traditional Ottoman house would look like. The museum exhibits many artifacts from the Islamic and Coptic eras in addition to others that were dug in Rashid and some places around. It has also a copy of the Rosetta stone. The Rosetta branch of the Nile is where the River ends and flows up into the Mediterranean Sea. It will be very enjoyable to ride a felucca on the Nile's mouth for a refreshing end of your day tour. In the end. You will return to your cruise ship in Alexandria Port.
